Gloucester MA— Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) is proud to announce the Cape Ann Artisans 40th Anniversary Exhibition at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA, from September 28 through October 29, 2023.
As part of the Cape Ann Artisans (CAA) collaboration with the Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Cape Ann Museum, this exhibition celebrates the work of current members and many of the prior Juried Members, including some In Memoriam. From a membership of 90 over the past 40 years, CAA has been offering Open Studio Tours to the Gloucester and Rockport communities.
Over the years, CAA’s artisans have enriched the Cape Ann cultural community in disciplines including jewelry, pottery, textiles, painting in many mediums, glass, wood, photography, sculpture, metalwork including pewter, copper, and steel, millinery, mosaics, and more. Members’ influence also extends beyond their Cape Ann Artisan alliance. Many are teachers, from art professors in Boston universities to those offering classes in their own studios. Many have exhibited their work locally and far beyond in galleries and museums. Many have mentored and served as leaders in arts organizations.
As part of CAA’s collaboration with the Cape Ann Museum, CAM will feature a panel discussion about CAA art and artisans at the museum at 27 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA.on October 21.
CAM has also hosted workshops taught by CAA members as part of CAM’s community outreach, including painting, trash art and, coming in November, mosaics. At CAM’s Blossom exhibition in May 2023, groups of CAA artisans collaborated on several 3D pieces to interpret selected paintings in the exhibition.
The Rocky Neck Art Colony is grateful for support from its fall sponsors, Modern Homestead Design and Build and Cape Ann Savings Bank. Bank President Marianne Smith notes: “We are fortunate to live in a community that is so rich in art history and home to one of the oldest art colonies in the country. Cape Ann Savings Bank prides itself on supporting the Cape Ann Community and we are pleased to support the Rocky Neck Art Colony and Cultural Center.”
