The Call
The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) invites artists to submit work for inclusion in Ornament, a members’ juried exhibition at the Cultural Center and online at RNACexhibitions.com.
RNAC member artists are invited to submit work that embodies ideas and elements of “Ornament.” This may be reflected in style, subject matter, mood, materials, method of execution or in whatever way the artist chooses. In addition to works recognizable as ornaments themselves, we welcome art that explores the many ways and reasons why humans (or other species!) practice embellishment – of our bodies, personal spaces, vehicles, etc. Craft (single objects or multiples) is welcome and artists are encouraged to consider this an opportunity for holiday sales, with work priced accordingly
Juror: Sarah Chasse is a specialist in American art and decorative arts; she has worked with the museum’s American collections since 2003. Most recently, Chasse co-curated On This Ground: Being and Belonging in America, PEM’s groundbreaking installation of their renowned collections of Native American and American collections that opened in 2022. She has also contributed to such exhibitions as Samuel McIntire, Carving an American Style; In Plain Sight: Discovering the Furniture of Nathaniel Gould; American Epics: Thomas Hart Benton and Hollywood; Ocean Liners: Glamour, Speed and Style, which was co-organized with the Victoria & Albert Museum; A Passion for American Art: Selections from the Carolyn and Peter Lynch Collection; and In American Waters: The Sea in American Painting. Chasse’s areas of focus are American and European decorative arts and design, early 20th century American art, and the history of collecting, museums and interiors. In 2023, Chasse was promoted to Curator at Large at PEM. She earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MA from the College of William and Mary, both degrees in American Studies with a focus on art history and material culture
