Layers in Mixed Media
Tuesday January 28 – Thursday, January 30, 2025, 10:30am-2pm
Workshop Cost: $225 for RNAC members; $285 for nonmembers
In this three-day workshop with artist Maria Malatesta, we will create paintings that combine printing, drawing, image transfers, paint or collage. There will be demonstrations of different ways to print with a gelli plate using a variety of papers and how to make image transfers. We will use water-based paint to build layers that create transparency and opacity.
Drawing materials include charcoal, conti, graphite, pastel. Bring what you like to work with! The addition of collage and photographic transfers may be layered into the work.
This is a fun class where exploration, staying open and “play” will be encouraged.

Life Drawing at Rocky Neck
Weekly Session: Resuming Monday, January 20, 1pm-4pm
Cost: $20 for RNAC members; $25 for nonmembers
Drawing the figure is not easy, but your comfort and skills will soar with regular practice. That’s the goal of the weekly Life Drawing at Rocky Neck, which has been held since 2018. We meet every Monday afternoon, from 1pm to 4pm, upstairs at the beautiful Cultural Center at Rocky Neck. Each session is drop-in, featuring a different professional model.
Poses vary in length, ranging from 3-minute gestural warm-ups to extended 40-minute single poses. We provide 10 easels, a few tables, and a very supportive group of artists, from beginners to the accomplished.
We are a fun group who believes that if you can draw the figure, you can draw anything. And that practice makes, if not perfect, at least a bit better each week.
