Open Studio: Deb Read, Goetemann Gloucester Artist-in-Residence

Join artist Deb Read, this year’s Goetemann Gloucester Grant Artist-in-Residence, for an informal open studio session. Visitors are welcome to stop by, see the artist at work, and get a glimpse into her process and works in progress.

Read’s interdisciplinary practice—spanning installation, performance, writing, and collaborative projects—challenges the notion that art must be an object. During her residency this October, Read embraces art as a public process of listening, generating, and sharing. “The question is never just ‘What did I make?’ but ‘What did we generate together?’” she notes. Her work invites us to see generosity as generative—enriching lives, spaces, and even economies.

Read will host an informal conversation reflecting on her experiences over the past month. Rather than a formal lecture, this will be an open discussion about process, exploration, and what has emerged during her time in the studio.
