Goetemann Residency at Rocky Neck Art Colony

The Rocky Neck Art Colony is currently accepting applications from visual artists for the sixth year of the Goetemann Residency at Rocky Neck Art Colony Program, which runs from June 1 through October 7, 2010. The artists selected will evidence high-level accomplishment, originality and seriousness of purpose. One applicant will be selected for each of three four-week residency terms. The program includes prime studio/gallery/living space (including utilities), press coverage, art sales opportunities, and access to a rich cultural community.
Requirements
- A public slide lecture during the first week of the residency presenting a collective body of the artist’s work followed by a discussion.
- An informal studio talk at the end of the residency where the artist will talk about works in progress during the residency..
- Open studio a total of 12 hours per week at posted times on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and/or Sundays between10 am and 9 pm.
- Application Deadline: March 15, 2010.
- Guidelines for Submissions
All submissions must be mailed or sent via courier and should include:
- A completed application form.
- One-page residency statement describing why the residency would be beneficial to your professional development and what skills/resources you would bring to assure a successful residency.
- 10 to 20 images of work completed within the last three years as 35 mm slides or on CD. Slides should be numbered and labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, and arrow indicating front and top of slide. CDs should be readable by a Macintosh computer and each image should be titled with the artist’s name and title of work. We accept JPEG files at 300 dpi, approximately 4” x 5” in size. Both slides and CD submissions must be accompanied by a printed list of images that includes the image number, title, media, size, date completed, and optional description.
- SASE – Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope for return of materials.
- An up-to-date resume or CV outlining your artistic accomplishments, awards, and education, etc.
- Though not required a letter of recommendation is desired.
- Non-refundable application fee of $25 payable by check or money order, made out to Rocky Neck Art Colony.
Your application must be RECEIVED by March 15, 2010. We will contact all applicants by April 15 to let them know whether or not they have been accepted into the program.

About the Rocky Neck Art Colony
Almost every American artist of note has painted on Rocky Neck at some point in his or her career including Milton Avery, Cecilia Beaux, Theresa Bernstein, Nell Blaine, Stuart Davis, Frank Duveneck, Adolph Gottleib, Childe Hassam, Hans Hoffmann, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Fitz Henry Lane, William Meyerowitz, Frederick Mulhaupt, Maurice Prendergast, Mark Rothko, John Sloan, and many others. That same vitality is alive today. Dozens of working artists display their work in Rocky Neck galleries and studios, exhibiting a wide range of styles and media.
The the Rocky Neck Art Colony is a non-profit organization whose mission is to nurture excellence in the visual arts and to celebrate the artistic culture of Rocky Neck.

About the Artist in Residency Program
The Artist in Residence program was established in 2005 by Gordon Goetemann. It reflects
principles stated in the RNAC by-laws to
- Acknowledge the importance of the traditions upon which the
Rocky Neck Art Colony was founded and work to keep them vital
in the context of contemporary culture.
- Provide opportunities for educational and professional development
in the arts, which might include lectures, workshops, exhibitions,
scholarships and residencies.
