Gloucester painter Sinikka Nogelo is an abstract expressionist who uses natural forms and personal symbols to express surroundings, thoughts and feelings. In her work visions of sea, sky and space transform into colorful pieces, both large and small. When emotions are the stimulus, her canvases interpret topics ranging from the personal (e.g. grief) to societal (e.g. pollution of our oceans). In addition to painting, she makes wall pieces and constructions from recyclables and discarded materials.

Born in Finland, Sinikka was raised in New York and Connecticut. She received her B.A in Sociology from Tufts University and later focused on art as a student at the Montserrat School of Art for two years. She was a founding member of the Gloucester cooperative gallery, "Center ad Main," and frequently exhibited in solo and group shows at the gallery and throughout the North Shore and Boston. She went on to a community television career that earned her awards and recognition and that allowed her to serve serve, with great pleasure, the Cape Ann she loves so much. Following her retirement as Executive Director of Cape Ann TV in 2010, Sinikka joined the Rocky Neck Art Colony. In August 2011 she exhibited as a guest artist at the Khan/Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, and later in the year, she was juried into membership of the Cape Ann Artisans.

Sinikka welcomes visitors at her studio at Cripple Cove Studios at 97 East Main Street, Gloucester.
